The Meadow
Cremated remains can be strewn (scattered) in the meadow area, located near to the book room and adjacent to the car park. This area is divided into the four seasons of the year. The grass in the meadow is intentionally left long to encourage natural wildflower and wildlife and is cut 2-3 times a year. Pathways are cut between and around the four areas to allow for access. If the cremation was carried out at Oakfield Gardens there is no fee for scattering cremated remains in this area but an appointment must be made at the office so that we can be in attendance and record the location of the strewing. If the cremation was held elsewhere there is a fee of £55 which covers administration and a contribution to the upkeep of the grounds. A handful of freshly cut flowers without any wrappings may be placed in this area and will be cleared by staff once past their best. Please see our regulations for more information.
Sanctum and Columbarium niches
Our niches are provided on a renewable lease of 10 or 20 years. Both options can accommodate up to two sets of cremated remains and provide a granite plaque inscribed with a meaningful dedication to your loved one. The plaques can be further enhanced with beautiful artwork or a photo plaque. For more information on our Niches visit our Memorials page or contact the office.
Purchased grave plots
Our cremated remains grave plots are located next to the book room and are provided on a renewable lease of 20 or 30 years. Each plot can accommodate up to four sets of cremated remains, or with our Eco-option, the plot could be used indefinitely. We also supply our unique memorial wedges for these plots which can each commemorate up to two people. Each plot can have up to four wedges installed over time. The granite wedge can be enhanced with artwork or a photo plaque of your loved one if desired. The grass in this area is left intentionally long and is cut periodically over the year with pathways cut to allow access and to define the plot areas. Please note that we do not provide a flower vase and only freshly cut flowers may be left on a plot which are cleared by staff when past their best.
Eco-burial
For the environmentally conscious - or those who wish to have their loved ones cremated remains interred in the ground without the need to purchase a grave. Located towards the far end of the grounds, this wildflower area provides plots designed to be re-used over time, saving the land from over-use whilst at the same time providing a habitat for wildlife. Prior to interment, a special soil, blended with additives designed to break down the cremated remains is added to the plot. Once the remains have been interred (without a container) more soil blend is added and the cremated remains and the soil are gently mixed. The plot is then topped up with normal soil and the original grass placed back on top. Over a short period of time the cremated remains are incorporated into the soil in a similar way to how nature would break them down, just more quickly. This enables the area to be used over and over again. The cost for an Eco-burial is £135 and includes the soil blend treatment and attendance by a member of the team. The interment can be tailored to a families needs and family members can get involved with parts of the process. Please contact the office for more information.
